Window Cleaning

If you “like clean windows” read this…

One of my favorite clients told me once, “Andy, I want clean windows…All the time!  The problem with your window cleaning service is that my windows don’t stay clean.”  With the views that Northern California offers, professional window cleaning makes perfect sense.  The problem with clean windows is they do not stay clean.

The beautiful sights and scenery offered to the people of Santa Rosa, Sonoma, Healdsburg, Petaluma, Windsor and Sonoma are accompanied by dusty summer air, rainy winters, damp mornings, windy evenings, and dust – not to mention, doggy nose prints, kitty paw swipes, kid’s messy fingers, splashed up mud, spiders  webs, bugs and flies… you name it.  Clean windows seem to attract it all.   Screen Shot 2013-09-04 at 11.40.41 AM

    • Summer: schedule the cleaning of all the windows inside and outside with a “wipe down” cleaning.
    • Fall: schedule the cleaning of all the windows outside with an inside and out cleaning on windows in high traffic areas. (add power washing and gutter cleaning)
    • Winter: schedule the cleaning of all the windows inside with an inside and out cleaning on windows in high traffic areas.
  4. Ask your service company for to supply you with the needed tools to “tidy up” as needed.
  5. True professional window cleaners use expensive products designed for easy clean up.  These products can be wiped clean by following these steps.

Suggested steps to “tidying up” between window cleaning services.

    1. For removing prints and smudges simply wipe with a clean, dry terry cloth towel.  Clean, Dry Micro-fiber towels can also be used.
    2. Make a quick- stern swipe with the terry towel over the dirty area (cleaning the entire piece of glass is often not needed).
    3. For tougher more stubborn messes on glass.  Try steps #1 and #2.  If this is not effective, prepare a damp (almost dry, clean) terry towel.
    4. Swipe or wipe the dirty area firmly and quickly (small circles) with a damp terry towel…wetting the window slightly
    5. Dry glass firmly and quickly (small up and down motion) using a clean terry cloth towel.
    6. If messes are even more stubborn.  Add a small dab of dish soap or professional grade product (get this through your window cleaning company) to the dry part of the towel and apply to the area.
    7. Swipe or wipe the dirty area firmly and quickly (small circles) with a damp terry towel…wetting the window slightly
    8. Dry glass firmly and quickly (small up and down motion) using a clean terry cloth towel.
    9. DO NOT use over the counter cleaning products.  Mixing professional grade products with “over the counter” products is counter productive.
    10. If you are a Bluetail customer… Relax because your next professional window cleaning visit is already scheduled.
